Sam Contis Awarded Grant by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts

Sam Contis has been named a recipient of the 2024 visual arts grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts (FCA). The FCA provides grants to artists acknowledged for their innovative and contemporary contributions across diverse fields.

Conversation and Book Signing – November 11, 2-4PM

Sam Contis and designer Julian Bittiner will be in conversation at the gallery to discuss their collaboration on the monograph Overpass. The event will take place on Saturday, November 11 from 2-4PM.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Sam Contis Talk at CCA

Sam Contis will be giving a talk at the California College of the Arts as part of their Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Lecture series. The talk will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 7:30PM – 9PM and is open to the public.

Sam Contis at Office Baroque

Sam Contis has work from her new series “Overpass” included in a two person show, Pitch, alongside Kahlil Robert Irving at Kristina Kite Gallery in Los Angeles. The unifying theme for this exhibition is the landscape, which both artists approach in their own distinct way. The show is on view November 19, 2022 to January 21, 2023.

Sam Contis at Carré d’Art Nîmes

For her first solo exhibition at a European institution, Sam Contis’s Transit presents new and recent works from three series, including large scale color photographs, intimately scaled gelatin silver prints, and a two-channel video projection. Contis’s recurring interest is in the body in flux – in motion through the landscape and through transitional states of identity. Transit is on view at Carré d’Art Nîmes July 5 through November 20, 2022.

Sam Contis in online show with Office Baroque

Sam Contis has work in La Boîte-en-Valise, an online exhibition at la-boite-en-valise.com that takes place in a reconstruction by a Dutch carpenter, of Marcel Duchamp’s 1941 famous mini retrospective work “Boite-en-Valise.” The exhibition features the work of 39 artists and will run from January 9th thru February 28th, 2021. La Boîte-en-Valise is a project by Office Baroque and was curated by Wim Peeters and Marie Denkens.
