A theory in contemporary physics states that true “empty space” is not actually empty, but is, in fact, dense, turbulent, and endlessly active. Actual empty space, however, cannot be accessed, experienced or tested. Any conception of it relies upon pure mathematics or upon something unrelated: elements taken from the “real” world; or things observed, in one way or another.

Leah Beeferman’s performance-screening EMPTY SPACE, brings information, abstraction, quantum physics, northern landscapes, video projection and sound into a speculative and factual attempt to understand what a true description of pure, scientific “empty space” could be. The event has three parts: a series of video projections, a text slideshow, and a sound piece.
